When Steve pushed back the curtains this morning he uttered, "Bleek and dismal." It wasn't all that bad. The shuttle ride was somewhat horrendous, which didn't uplift our outlook. They added a new stop up beyond Highridge, so the mansion people can get on. Gazillions of Highridge people got on. So many rode, that when we went back past Edgemont, the driver wouldn't let anyone on.
The sun was bright through the clouds. I almost wished I had my sunny goggles.
With no lunch, we got off the first stop and went up Rams Head. The double double was brutal toward the top. The word for the day was not Breezy (or her mother, Stormy) but Windy. Boy, did it blow! We had to get out of there. The frozen granular down the Chute was like skiing on golf balls.
On our only K-1 ride, the gondola cars coming down were swinging wildly. I can't believe they ran it all day. We went directly to the Eye where we hit the jackpot. No people, softer snow, now wind. We stayed there a while. We caught corduroy on Wayne's Wrap-around.
Trail of the day: Home Stretch. We took it top to bottom. The further down we got, the softer the snow. It was lovely. And no one was on it. There's a new log mansion for sale there. I was holding out a glimmer of hope, that Valley Plunge would be open. Nope. If it wasn't groomed, it wasn't open today. The snow on one stretch was pretty brown. There were real mashed potatoes at the bottom.
Bear had a Burton event. There were Burton yurts set up for free trials. Every person with a Y chromosome got one and slammed it all over the Stash. There was supposed to be a BBQ at the Sugar Shack, but I doubt a grill could stay lit with all the wind. Boy bodies everywhere.
Paul Mitchell also had a yurt. I got a few samples of new products. When I gave the Paul Mitchell girls green beads for St. Patrick's Day, I got handfuls of samples. Steve stuffed them in his pocket.
Skiing Bear: Sliding on hard pack from sugar pile to sugar pile. That's it. We took a short break and went back to the Eye.
The thing is, we got a full day in. We skied from 10-2:30, no lunch. It is now 4:30 and still no rain. I guess we're supposed to get some of the freezing stuff tonight.
Last night we did an appetizer and dinner at the Santa Fe with our Locals pass. Thank you, Sean-the-bartender. Steve made me tip him $30 on a $43 tab. He was definitely over-served.
Tonight? Steve wants to do something new like On the Rocks. Sean the bartender told us how Steve-the-bartender wears suspenders as part of his uniform there. "That can't be a good look for him," I said.
Sean laughed and said it wasn't.
