UNH-UMass Tailgating

That UNH soundly trounced U Mass 39-13, was only a part of yesterday's story. Expertly organized by Mace, dozens of us converged at Gillette Stadium for a day of greasy meats and nonsense. Arriving at 11:30 am, the well-oiled machine that is the UNH crew (Steve, Mace, and Dave H. all hold Ph.D.s in tailgating), the place was set up in moments. Just then the orange-jacketed workers arrived yelling "No food or drink until 12:30!" I dropped my cheese and cracker then and there.

This very might well have been called Sausage-fest '10. Apple sausage, hot sausage, mild sausage, Polish kielbasa, kielbasa with Ah-So sauce, steak tips, buffalo meat, bourbon-soaked tips. Oi!

Eighteen hot dogs after the game when no tailgating was allowed. Bob ate 16.

"I'm going to take my meat out," shouted Dave S. We were not impressed. Same goes for when Dave H. put bourbon down his pants and announced there was not enough room. Apparently Dave L. had plenty.

Bob swigging bourbon, then handing it to Steve H. who did the same. "What are you doing?" I asked.

"Peer pressure," he grinned. Right.

To BB, Jeanie, Pete and anyone else with a "Beat UNH" button on: better luck next year.

October 22, 2011. Save the date.
